Domain Name News has the story that the Dallas Cowboys have backed out of their $275,000 bid on the web address Cowboys.com after they reportedly (and unbelievably) thought they were bidding $275.

To make things even stranger, the name was then put into an auction and sold for $370,000!Although it may seem like a lot of money, the domain name would have been much easier for the team to brand - (Cowboys.com has a certain ring to it and is certainly crisper and smoother than DallasCowboys.com) , and would have cost the Cowboys bottom line about $18,000 per year assuming it was depreciated over 15 years.

The Charlotte Bobcats recently paid $50,000 for the domain name Bobcats.com
